GRACE HOPPER:

Grace Hopper was born in New York and died in Arlington, Virginia. She was an American mathematician, rear admiral in the U.S Navy and was a pioneer in developing computer technology.

MAJOR ACADEMIC EVENT:

In 1928, she graduated from Vassar College.
In 1930, she attend Yale University and got her Ph.D. in 1934
She taught mathematics at Vassar.She joined the Naval Reserve in 1943.
She became a lieutenant and was assigned to the Bureau of Ordnance’s Computation Project at Harvard University in 1994

MOJOR CONTRIBUTION:

She worked on the first large-scale automatic calculator and precursor of electronic computers.
She wrote, “A Manual of Operation for the Automatic Sequence Controlled Calculator,” the first computer manual ever wrote.
She invented the first computer language compiler.
She helped devise the naval applications for COBOL

AWARDS:

Hopper received 40 honorary degrees from universities across the world during her lifetime.
